Characterized by abundant landforms of magnificent miarolitic granite, gorgeous volcanic rocks and diversified riverbed erosion, the geopark boasts its colorful geological heritages of various types, mainly including geological and geomorphologic heritage, straitgraphical heritage, petrologic heritage, geological structure heritage and hydrological heritage, etc. All these landforms complement each other and constitute a unique combination of landscapes, creating a natural geological museum in the park.

Geological heritage

The Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark is situated in the coastal area of southeastern China, sitting in the middle portion of the Mesozoic Southeast China igneous zone which is an important component of the Pacific volcanic rim.

It is a typical area of the active continental marginal zone in the circum-Pacific belt. The Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous dacitic-rhyolitic igneous rocks are widespread in the Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark. The structure is dominated by NE-extending faults accompanied by NW- and NEE-extending ones.

The Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark offers to the visitors high quality infrastructure providing access to various landforms which have been developed on the granitic and volcanic formations such as miarolitic granite landform, volcanic landform, fluvial erosional landform, and coastal erosional landforms.
