West of the Kalloni bay, approximately 3km from Parakoila towards Anemotia via a rural road, the impressive Vrontis waterfall is located in a unique natural landscape.
The waterfall is created due to a fault that affects the volcanic rocks of the area, specifically the andesitic lavas. The fault creates a large terrace of about 15 meters, which interrupts the smooth flow of water and which, as it falls, creates a natural depression at the point of the fall, forming a natural pond.
The Vrontis stream originates from the mountainous mass of Prophet Ilias (799m.), on the slopes of which grows the only black pine forest on the island. Among the dense black pine forest, the unique in Greece, but also in Europe, riverside plant communities with rhododendron (Rhododendron Luteum) thrive, as well as peonies (Paeonia mascula – Peonia the Romalea) and the large fern called “Osmunda the basilisk” ( Osmunda regalis).
Afterwards, the Vrontis stream continues its course, joins the Taxiarchi stream, where it forms a unique wetland at its mouth before emptying into the Kalloni bay.
