The second area is the Gulf of Gera, along the shores of which there are small salt marshes or marshes (Dipi – Larsos, Evreiaki, Charamida). On its western side rises Mount Olympus with a height of 968 m. which is mainly covered by chestnut forests and Tracheia Pefki pine forest, except for its bare limestone peak.
The very special habitats of these areas in terms of fauna, are among others: porphyry heron, white stork and brown goose (birds), Persian water snake, common water snake, the two species of river turtle (amphibious reptiles), Apollonian archon (invertebrates), squirrel of Lesvos, tranomyotid, Blasius’ rhinoceros, even the last otters (mammals) etc. The flora is also of great value and presents a rich botanical interest, with the protected endemic species Alyssum lesbiacum, orchids, reeds, sedges, willows, willows and carrion (elms), etc.
