It is located on the western side of the mouth of the Gulf of Kalloni, 4 km SW of Apotheka and has an area of 13 acres.

It is formed by the estuary of the seasonal stream which, after the end of the rainy season, is cut off from the sea, forming a pocket of water that is particularly valuable during the summer months until (some years) the autumn.

It is home to Mediterranean Gulls (which visit to wash their feathers from the salt!), Pipits, Cormorants, Cormorants and quite a few Barn Swallows. It also maintains fairly large concentrations of young tadpoles and a small population of Striped Water Turtles. Finally, it is important that it is protected by the Presidential Decree for small island wetlands.
