Kalloni Environmental Information Center, which is operated by the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, you can learn about the natural wealth of the Kalloni Gulf and the whole island of Lesvos.

Both in its premises (permanent exhibition hall, audiovisual hall) and outdoors, in the field, the Center organizes and implements every year a series of activities aiming to inform, entertain and raise awareness on environmental and nature-related issues. Furthermore, the Center coordinates and implements a scientific project of recording and monitoring the biodiversity of the Kalloni Gulf (wetland status, bird populations, etc.) and then promotes their dissemination to the media and the public.

The exhibition comprises information and photographic material, models of animals, devices explaining natural procedures, and exhibits about the nature of the KalloniGulf but also Lesvos island in general.

The exhibition presents (in Greek and English) the geology, wetland formation, and importance, the richness of the sea of the Kalloni Gulf (bivalves, fish, etc), natural ecosystems of Lesvos, characteristic plants and animals, human activities, and history.

Suggested tour duration: 45′

Groups or schools can be guided through the exhibition while parts of it are used for educational programs and experiential activities.

Kalloni Environmental Information Center systematically organizes events to celebrate the international days which are under the environment and nature topic. Presentations, seminar days, conferences, newsletters in the local and national press, etc..
