The area largely overlaps with the Special Conservation Zone of the Western Peninsula of Lesvos – Petrified Forest of Lesvos, and is characterized by a remarkable presence of breeding birds such as Long-legged buzzard, Black Stork, Lesser kestrel, etc.
The existence of small wetlands in the wider area of the Western Peninsula adds ecological value, since they are a feeding and resting station for birds.
