It consists of two sections, the coastal and the terrestrial, in which important plant fossils have been uncovered by the research work of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest. More than fifty standing and lying tree trunks of coniferous and angiosperm trees, root systems and leafy horizons make up a geosite of rare natural beauty.
Among the finds is the world’s largest standing fossil tree trunk, which measures 13.5 meters in circumference and has an impressive root system. It is a cinnamon tree with gigantic dimensions, indicative of the composition of the forest ecosystem.
In the coastal area is located the impressive laying tree trunk of an angiosperm tree, the length of which reaches 14 meters.
