The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest implement daily guided tours and scientific information in the Nisiopi Marine Petrified Forest, during the summer. The trip to Nisiopi islet is made by using a special vessel with a glass bottom.
The islet of Nisiopi, a natural barrier in the Sigri Gulf, along with the sea area that surrounds it, constitutes the westernmost edge of the unique natural monument in the world, the Petrified Forest of Lesvos.
The tour begins with a scientific briefing about the creation of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos, at the facilities of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest in Sigri.
Then the visitors go to the port of Sigri, where with the special boat with a glass bottom they visit the marine area of the Park and tour the shores where the can observe the fossils and then disembark at the port of Nisiopi where they guided tour on the terrestrial part of the Park.
Nisiopi is narrated a story of destruction, through which a dense subtropical forest was saved and remained its eternal witness and narrator!
In the terrestrial part of the Park, visitors can explore the impressive fossil sites, which can be visited through specially designed walking paths. They can discover new sites of petrified tree trunks, where the most impressive find of a giant tree trunk that was revealed almost intact in its natural position with a total length of 17.20 meters, the hundreds of colorful splits of petrified sequoia trees of the “Petrified” beach and they can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Aegean!
The morphology of the terrain is smooth and enables an easy hiking route for all the visitors.
