Among the “Museums that narrate the past of Lesvos” there are also new spaces that continue the tradition of connecting Lesvos with art. A week before the International Museum Day, a modern space is presented that brings the residents and visitors of Lesvos into contact with the artistic creation of the time.
K-Gold Temporary Gallery was founded in 2014 and aims to bring the general public into contact with contemporary art through exhibitions, performances, publications and educational programs. The initially mobile gallery is now located in the center of the traditional settlement of Agia Paraskevi and is an oasis for the promotion of contemporary art. It started as an art project but has evolved into a contemporary art platform where artists and curators expand their research and practice. The man who envisioned and implements the programs of the K-Gold Temporary Gallery is Nikolas Vamvouklis, a young man originally from the village, who already has several European distinctions as an art historian and theoretician and insists on offering to his special homeland. It has presented the work of renowned artists such as Joan Jonas, Bas Jan Ader, Lucy+Jorge Orta, Ana Mendieta, Maria Papadimitriou, Ilias Papailiaki and many others.
