The Ambeliko folklore museum was created in 1995 and is housed in a building located in the courtyard of the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos Ambeliko. It aims at finding, rescuing and displaying the documents of history and folk tradition through objects related to material life (folk occupations), church objects, old traditional costumes.
The museum’s exhibition is structured in four main sections that house the Resin Collection, the Folklore Collection, the Archaeological Collection and the Ecclesiastical Collection.
The Antique Collection Department of the Museum is unique in Greece. It contains all the tools of the resin makers, old rare photos from the resin collection as well as the archive of the Ambeliko Resin Cooperative (1929-1967). At a distance of one kilometer from the village is the Resin Park, which is connected by a path and the visitor can admire the hut where the resin workers lived and the old underground resin tank.
The Folklore Collection includes 1660 exhibits that record the history of the village such as household utensils, tools (agricultural, weaving, etc.), weapons, coins, musical instruments, cameras and paintings.The Archaeological Collection highlights architectural members and objects (capitals, stathmia, vessels, parts from the Roman aqueduct, parts from the Roman liotribi) from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.In the section with the Ecclesiastical Collection, clothes, books, wood carvings, sacred utensils and icons are preserved and presented.
