Antissa is a semi-mountainous settlement (280 m altitude) of western Lesvos. It is located at a distance of 76 km from the city of Mytilini, on a volcanic slope that overlooks the Asia Minor peninsula of Troy. The village is the continuation of ancient Antissa, hometown of the great poet Terpandros.
The Sights are the ruins of a Venetian castle (Paliokastro, Obriokastro or Genoese Castle, as they are called by the locals), the traces of the walls of the ancient city of Antissa, in the location of Vigla on the coast. Also of interest is the monastery of Ypsilos, with its wonderful collection (manuscripts, documents, gospels, ecclesiastical objects, as well as the vestments of Gregory V) and its beautiful view towards the peninsula of Athos, as well as the Monastery of Perivolia built . at the beginning of the 17th century with frescoes in the Byzantine style. Finally, close to the village is the settlement of Tsithra with the church of Agios Nikolaos.
