The area overlaps in one part with the Special Conservation Zone of Kalloni Bay, while it extends to the Ennia Kamares wetlands and the Tsiknia River.
Also included in its area are the wetlands in the northern and western parts of the bay, where the presence of rare and endangered birds is important.
