The church was rebuilt in 1795 and thus reached its present form. The church was painted with frescos paintings in 1799 and in 1918 renovation works were carried out, during which many old frescos paintings were covered with newer ones. A fragment of a fresco of the old church is preserved on the south wall.
The wood-carved iconostasis is one of the most valuable on the island, the panels of which are decorated with reliefs from the Old and New Testaments. It is a work of 1812 and was built “under the master Stavros of George Politos Chiotis”, according to an agreement document.
The Holy table works of 1818, are also of the same style, as is the high priest’s throne, which was designed in 1872. In the church, valuable portable icons are preserved, dating back to 1795, which proves that they come from the old church . Among them stands out the “Virgin Mary of Agiotheodoritissa”, a Byzantine icon which, as mentioned, was widely paraded throughout Mytilene.
The temple celebrates the first Saturday of Lent, March 25 and August 15.
