The Metochion of the Taxiarchs belongs to the Leimonos monastery, which was founded by St. Ignatius Agallianos in the 16th century. It is very close to the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Klopedi and its church dedicated to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel celebrates on September 6 the memory of the miracle in Chonai.
The land on which the monastery is located belonged to a rich Turkish Aga. Once Aga’s child fell seriously ill and became paralyzed. No matter which doctor he went to, he could not be cured. Desperate, he turned to Saint Ignatius himself, begging him to pray to the “Greek God” in exchange for giving away this land, so that a church could be built. With the prayers of St. Ignatius the Turk’s child was healed, and he in turn gave him the land thanking God. This is how a large monastery dedicated to Taxiarchis was built, just like the Leimonos monastery. Over time, however, it fell into disrepair and succumbed to the ravages of time. In July 1951, it was renovated from the ground up under Abbot Polycarp Mousidis from Dafia. It is assumed that the wider area of Klopedi received its name from the incident of the paralysis of the child of the aga who was “kulatheche” (lame child).
In 1991, the restoration and renovation works of the monastery began from the Leimonos monastery under the abbotship of Nikodimos Pavlopoulos and with a generous donation from Nikolaos Zaglaviras. Until then, only his church stood in the ruined monastery. The sacred platform is distinguished by a wood-carved iconostasis, while in the main church there are pews, lecterns, despotic thrones and a pediment. The narthex is embellished with an arched shield, while the stone-paved enclosure as a real ornament is adorned on the left with a large marble dining table with seating and a double-sided fountain. In a large tank there is a marble inscription in relief from 1776 which states “The present source was fundamentally renovated at the expense of the fathers”. of Taxiarchon of Klopedis
