The area overlaps with the Special Zone of Conservation “Gera Bay, Dipi Marsh & Mount Olympus”, including Gera Bay, Dipi Marsh and Charamida, with little representation from rural areas.
The areas of reeds and salt marshes are important, with important bird species being the Moustached warbler, the Green-headed duck, Red-breasted merganser, sandwich tern etc.
