The Teriade Museum, in the suburb of Varia of Mytilene, hosts the permanent exhibition of the entire publishing work of the inspiring man and artist Stratis Eleftheriadis-Teriade. It is unique in its kind and we can call it an “open book”.
Stratis Eleftheriadis – Teriade (Mytilini 1897 – Paris 1983) in addition to his interest in painting, was an inspiring publisher and art critic with his unique quality art books that gained worldwide fame. Among them the VERVE magazine and the 26 illustrated books called “Grand’s Livres” which are original works of art, handmade and in a limited number of copies. Teriade has remained in the international community for the role he played as an initiator of the unprecedented phenomenon of the approach of poets and artists as well as the unprecedented coupling of words and image.
The Museum houses, preserves and presents the collection of this unique man and artist. In its halls are exhibited works by well-known artists, copies of the “Great Books” and VERVE with lithographs by Chagall, Matisse, Picasso, Léger, etc.
In addition to the permanent exhibition of the entire Publishing Project of Stratis Eleftheriadis-TERIADE, the Museum holds retrospective exhibitions of Visual Arts, publications and other cultural events related to its character.
