Waterfall “Tsobani Lakkos” Eresou

In the south-west of Lesvos, between the settlements of Eresos and Mesotopos and specifically in the area of Vatoudia, along the Roussos stream, is the impressive waterfall “Tsobani Lakkos”.

The waterfall is created by the action of E-W faults that affect the volcanic rocks of the area, specifically the volcanic andesitic lavas. At this location, impressive structures of well-preserved columnar lavas are observed.

The Roussou stream originates from the historical peak of Aitos (503m.). The waters of the stream fall from a high cliff more than 30 meters high, forming the impressive waterfall. The momentum of the water creates a natural depression at the point of the fall, forming a natural pond.

Afterwards, the Roussos stream continues its course, joins the Psaropotamos river, whose waters come from the artificial lake of the Eresos dam, and ends at the beach of Skala Eresos, where it forms its estuary.
